party prep for any given sunday

February 1, 2011 by jeanie 1 Comment

With the countdown for Super Bowl XLV in full effect, it’s time to pull out the partyjeanie playbook on game day etiquette.   One might question the introduction of formalities for a party that calls for chips, wings & beer served in bottles, however being a considerate and gracious host transcends any occasion.

The follow suggestions are designed to welcome the guests and ease the burden of continual cleaning for the host.

Clear out a space in the hall closet to accommodate your guests’ coats and jackets.  I always leave a handful of empty hangers in the front of my closet available to guests year round – it is a polite way to invite guests into your home by caring for their garment the same as you would your own.

Prepare a playlist peppered with arena worthy songs to build up momentum until the pre-game show commences.  Always plan for an extra hour of music.  No matter how delightful the conversation nor the potency of the cocktails  – people recognize a repeat offender.

Discreetly place an attractive waste bin around the food service.  This day encourages 5 napkins food, so make it easy and accessible for your friends to dispose of their chili stained serviette.

Set out a receptacle for empty bottles (and dare I include cans) in the main viewing area.  I use vintage soda bottle crates that are as stylish as they are practical.  As a host you can remove a case worth of discarded empties in one trip to the kitchen and serve a fresh round from the same tray.

Since game day parties are intended as a no-fuss causal affair, with the application of these tips, you can sit down, join the party and root for your team.

GO (insert your preference: Steelers or Packers here) GO!!!

xxoo.

Love it! I’m totally looking for one of those vintage crates now. (And the sliders look great, too.)
