I love surprises – mostly in the shape of a present, but I’ll accept any form of the unexpected. As I was mulling over the topic of today’s intended blog post (big secret – to be revealed next week) I was pleasantly presented with inspiration in the form of the check out woman at Whole Foods.
She was young and appeared to be of standard stock for the check out service – pleasant, diligent and affable. We engaged in some idle chitchat that included me owning my business to which she replied that one day she would as well. Always curious to learn more about people, I had inquired as to what she wanted to do. To which she stated, “I hope to open a group home.” I was intrigued so I asked what community would benefit from her dream and she flatly said, ‘teenage mothers’. I prodded a bit more and blatantly asked if she was a teen mother to which she responded, no but knows many who are.
I was impressed that this woman, who was probably just peaking from her own teenage years would possess the integrity, poise and desire to serve a greater good and provide direction, shelter and hope for those without. It was a genuinely lovely moment to be reminded people are most the time not what they appear.
Now this may have absolutely nothing to do photo archiving, scrapbooks or memento preservation, but sometimes when you get a roll of film back from the developer there is a hidden gem of a story that you hadn’t noticed when you originally looked through the viewfinder.
Always appreciative,
xxoo.
