Unless you are a head of state or royalty, it is highly unlikely you will be sitting for a painted portrait. But that doesn’t mean that you must forgo the opportunity to have your image immortalized in perpetuity. Having a graphic illustration of yourself is like having the best hair day (and in my case unobtainable color), a professional make up application and your perfect body image all in one fell swoop! At least that’s how I feel about my stellar sketch fashioned by the amazingly talented Chuck Gonzales.
I have long admired Chuck’s incredible body of illustrative work – from a host of Chronicle Book projects, to Neiman Marcus catalogs to every major newspaper & magazine in between. Chuck’s distinct and striking drawing style has made him a covetable commodity and I was beyond grateful and appreciative when he agreed to create my brand logo image for me.
Chuck is able to capture his subject’s physical appearance flawlessly, yet somehow infuse their personality into the two-dimension pictorial. This is why I think a graphic illustration is the ideal alternative for many occasions that require a picture perfect photograph. Family portraits for holiday cards, engagement announcements, and pet portrayals – truly any photographic opportunity works beautifully with this medium.
Although Chuck’s craft has a cartoon appeal, it is not characterture. This is bonafide art and should be valued and revered. I am so completely smitten with my illustration I just may never be photographed again.
