This may come as a surprise to some and disbelief to others, but I detest shopping. I don’t dislike owning and amassing things (obvi), but I really loathe the act of the acquisition. At the top of this (non) shopping list is makeup. I will pull tear sheets from gazillions of beauty magazines, keep meticulous and dated notes on the latest & greatest cosmetics and set up an individual filing system on my celly just to have it readily available should I be out & about and want to pick up well researched item or two. However, there is rarely a call to action. I had concluded what I really needed was a *beauty* stylist. And like most things I dream up, my request magically availed itself.
I have known Sharon Becker for well over a decade from the days she was manning the Prescriptives counter (RIP) at Bergdorf Goodman’s. Sharon is a master at bringing out the client’s inner beauty by highlight and enhancing her visage. Her makeup application is always skilled and glamorous, yet real. Women who leave her capable and quick hands always appear as a prettier and more polished version of themselves.
Just as I was germinating the concept of a cosmetic consultant, I had the good fortune to run into Sharon at a mutual friend’s birthday party. I had expressed my need for a ‘hands on’ approach to weeding out and working with what I already owned and then supplementing with new essentials – much like what I do for apartmentjeanie clients. Unknown to me, Sharon was providing this exact amenity under the umbrella (or perhaps powder puff would be a more appropriate word choice) of sb.beauty, a professional make up service.
In preparation for Sharon’s consultation, all cosmetics, applicators and tools were displayed for her inspection. I anticipated a ruthless removal of the majority of beauty aids, but Sharon’s approach was quite the contrary. She created a cohesive and complementary collection of cosmetic choices for me. Each enhanced look building on the foundation of the previous one. What I found most compelling about this session is how educated and knowledgeable Sharon is about the science of beauty. She explained each step of the application process as though she was instructing a class and the experience was far more intellectual then one would expect for a make over.
At the conclusion of our confabulation, Sharon constructed a shopping list for me which consisted of exactly 2 items: 1 – Rosebud salve which I promptly purchased that same day and the other, well like most shopping, I have yet to get to it. (Did I disclose we met in November?) Whether it is a cosmetic clutter consultation, a professional photo shoot or wedding day maquillage, Sharon Becker can facilitate you feeling fabulous and isn’t that the best kind of beauty – inner?
Lipstick kisses,
xxoo.
