I always like to have a variation of heights in my buffet arrangements – not only does it create visual interest but also makes the food more accessible. However like most city dwellers who suffer from small kitchens and storage, large footed platters are absent from my service piece inventory. There are a wide range of housewares that can serve as a base. Books are a great go-to, filled glass vases as well as sturdy stemware. I used 4 commemorative Andy Warhol designed Campbell soup cans under the crudite platter and an inverted dog bowl as a stand for the mini champagne cans.
